Kakegawa Station is the perfect stop for anyone who loves green tea, visitors looking for something a little more personal and a little more intimate, and for those who believe the journey is more important than the destination.

Kakegawa City Within easy walking distance of the station is one of Japan’s most unique castles and the castle grounds which include a tea ceremony house, an original Samurai Lord’s manor, a samurai armour shop and stain glass museum, a bird park full of exotic birds from around the world that you can feed and many great little restaurants and shops.

Spend a day wandering around the small castle town, enjoying some of the best green tea, and friendly locals.

Fukuroi City – Within half and hour of Kakegawa there are many Zen temples in Fukuroi, which is also the home of Ecopa Stadium

Makinohara – Take a bike ride through acres of green tea plantations.

Omaezaki –  Get some beach time and try some of the freshest seafood around at one of the local inns

Kawanehoncho – A little further afield is the small mountain village Kawane and Sumatakyo Hot spring area which are well worth the journey.

Getting there and around

Step off the bullet train at Kakegawa Station and you are in the castle town of Kakegawa.

Accessible from Kakegawa station by Tokaido Local train is Fukuroi (7 minutes) or Shin Kanaya (31 mins) – from which you can take the Steam Locomotive to Sumatakyo Gorge.

Omaezaki and Makinohara are accessible by bus, rental car or taxi (between 30 – 40 minutes).

If the weather is good, and you have one, a bicycle is a great way to go as you can cycle through vast green tea plantations all the way from the station to the ocean!
